Can Veritas Backup Exec 10.0 backup files on a SATA RAID Array

have a Windows 2003 Server Standard on a Dell PowerEdge T300 using a PERC 6/i SATA RAID adapter with a single partition.

I am trying to use Veritas Backup Exec 10.0 to backup the C drive. Every time I try I get an error message telling me that it can not access the C drive.

I have:
" I have gone through the selection list in Text form and there is nothing listed that is not there.
" I have adjusted the selection list to just one file in one folder and still the same, I looked at the TEXT list to make sure.
" I am using the Veritas drivers but it is backing up to a USB drive listed as a Removed Backup to Disk Folder, these USB drives where used on another Win2K3 server successfully and the backup destination is NOT listed as the problem.
" I have updated Veritas to Sp5 and updated it with 4 patches that come after Sp5, there are no other updates available other than upgrading to 11d.
" I have uninstalled, removed all traces, and re-installed Veritas BE 10.0
" I have tested the account being used and verified its settings.

Do you know if Veritas BE 10.0 will support backing up files located on a SCSI RAID controller?

What can I do to get this to work?

Raid usually does not interfere with BE backups since it does it on a file level (NTFS)
I would try to backup the drive using NTBACKUP and see what it gives you, this will baseline wether it's a permissions issue or something else.  Did you setup a service account for BE or did you use administrator?

Please clarify whether you're backing up to disk tape or removeable media, and the media set you've created, such as backup to disk folder etc...
Can you post the exact error message here ?

I am using an account named Utility and I have verified that the account permissions are OK

I am backing up a SATA RAID array to a 400GB USB drive using a Removable Backup To Disk Folder and I do not get any errors regarded to the backup device.

Here is the error message:
AOFO: Started for resource: "Shadow?Copy?Components". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
The following volumes are dependent on resource: "C:" .
The snapshot provider used by VSS for volume C: - Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0 (Version 1.0.0.7).
Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.
None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.
Directory  was not found, or could not be accessed.
None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

I get this error message if I select the Shadow Copy and if I get the same exact erro message if I deselect Shadow Copy.

I do not have the Open File Agent installed, I only have Backup Exec installed with non of the additional modules installed.
Well, first of all, since you don't have the AOFO agent option installed, you'll need to uncheck the "Use Advanced Open File Option" under the Job's settings.

You'll also nedd to make sure that the account used for BE, has sufficient rights ont he drive you're backing up. Go to Logon Account MAnagement, check which account you're using then add it on the c drive's security properties
Like I said above:

I do not have The Advance Open File Agent installed and because of this I can not select it as an option, it is grayed out.

I am using an account called Utility that I created with the BE  Wizard and I double checked the account in Computers & Users and verified that it has the correct memberships and I used BE to test its access.

Also,
When I run a test of the backup job it is successful, to avoid confusion for those who don't read everything posted the Test is successful but the backup job fails.

I know someone will ask so here is the answers in advance:

Yes I have logged into the Server with the username/password being used by BE and I was able to do so with no problems.

I have tried deleting the account and recreating it with no success.

I have tried using a new account with a different username and password.

I do not have the Complex Password GPO enabled.

And,
This a fresh install of BE 10.0 on a newly created Windows 2003 Domain Controller and File Server, all files being backed up are local to the server.

Yes,

QuickBooks Enterprise Edition is installed on the server and it uses SQL 2005.

After removing BE 10.0, installing 10.1, and installing the Sp3 patch I was able to run a backup job without the error message.

Thanks
Your solution solved the problem.

The serve has QuickBooks Enterprise Edition installed on it and and QuickBooks Enterprise Edition uses SQL 2005.

Thanks.
