QoS Cisco Network

We are deploying three new sites shortly which will contain a windows 2003 domain along with a Asterisks VOIP system. All internal calls will be via VOIP and a OnRamp20 will handle external calls.

My question arises with QoS. Don't really know what type of QoS or CoS I need to implemnet or where. There is a diagram attached showing the network layout. Can anyone shed light on what I need to do to protect the VOIP from studdereing or failing to deliver at all sites. The rough steps I'd need to take on each interface or port would be grand.

thanks

You will need to customize the above config to suit your needs. For example, on the router you can tweak the bandwidth reserved for VoIP traffic and signalling based on the number of IP Phones etc.

Also, is your WAN link a Serial interface or Ethernet interface ? If it is Ethernet, the router config I provided above does not apply...you will have to configure the interface with:
 mls qos trust dscp

HI vjlp,

Appreciate your detailed response. I have a number of questions.

1. The edge switches? Based on my diagram could you tell me which are my edge switches? I presumed all swicthes in all branches would need the qoS config?
2. "set the appropriate cos to dscp mapping". Do I use your settings in the example or do I have to some how calulate my own?
3. My Private Network WAN Interfaces are ethernet. so the only command related to QoS I run on those interfaces is "mls qos trust dscp" right? and this will implement the QoS policy for voip across the private network WANs?
4. "You will need to customize the above config to suit your needs" Could you tell me what values I can customise and what there value means?

Many Thanks!
