Hyper-V installation
I have installed Windows 2008 64 bit evalution version which is valid for 60 days on IBM 64 bit Blade server.
I have installed Hyper-V role also. The documentation on MS site advice to install KB950050 but it give error that "Update does not apply to your system"
Now it gives error when I start virtual machine "The virtual machine could not be started because Hypervisor is not running"
What could be the reason for it.

Make sure you downloaded the 64 bit version, and not the 32 bit version by mistake.

The expert above is correct. As you boot up your server, enter the bios and it will have a option for Virtualization > Enable or something of that sort. Review documentation for your system.

I checked, Intel VT is enabled. I am using IBM blade server.
Can you you provide me the links from where you have downloaded SW.

Here is the link for 950050 for your system: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=F3AB3D4B-63C8-4424-A738-BADED34D24ED
If you have VT enabled, and the execute bit disable option enabled, there is nothing on the hardware that is limiting you from not being able to run Hyper-V.
If 950050 is not installed, you would be running on a Beta3 build of HyperV - which had some issues where the Hypervisor would not load sometimes.
Do you have any error messages in the logs that might give us some more information on what is going on here? Check the system logs and the Hyper-V logs. The HyperV logs can be found in the following location:
Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application and Service Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Hyper-V Hypervisor
In Beta3, the last part may differ slightly.

I've got the same problem, yet my KB950050 patch failed and now I am unable to re-install. Does anyone know a manual method of remove (by sifting thorugh various registry keys) or a 3rd party way to install this MSU again?!

Dual Core xeon. actually added a second one while I was at it. running windows server 2008 r2 datacenter edition. 16 gb ram. went into bios and validated that all the settings are correct.
