Getting prompted for username and password when opening my Intranet.
I continue to get prompted for a username and password when I open my Intranet home page from within my companies domain. We recently moved to Sharepoint 2007 for building the Intranet. The issue started last week when I had to change my domain password. I've tried the following:
- Add my Intranet site to the Intranet security zone trusted sites
- Selected 'Automatic logon only in Intranet zone' in my "User Authentication" security setting within IE
- Selected "Automatic logon with current user name and password' in my "User Authentication" security setting within IE
- Verified I do not have the password cached
- Cleaned out cookies and files in IE
- Cleaned out passwords and forms in IE
I'm at a lost at this point, and would appreciate any help getting me in the right direction.

Are you the only user affected or are other people having the same issue?

I am the only person for which the solutions above didn't resolve the problem.
do you get the same issue using firefox or a different browser?
ASKER
Firefox is outlawed in our environment. We can only use IE.
have you tried changing your domain login password
By checking for the password cached, did you check your user account profile in Windows?
Check Control Panel - User Accounts
Advanced
Manage Passwords
Delete any passwords out of there that point to your domain

Ya I checked there, nothing was saved. I haven't tried changing my domain password since changing it last week. I can try in a day or two, but it's a real pain to change passwords where since we have so many and I try to keep them sync'd up.
Have you tried to log into an associated machine, and see if you can access it? That will rule out whether it is an account or computer issue
sometimes the multiple prompts are a sign that something is trying to load on the page and the person doesn't have proper permissions to it.
a common example is the company logo... it will be a file on a server that doesn't have sufficient permissions for the user to view.
another possibility is that you need to extend your website to a new zone.
to troubleshoot...
try to access your sharepoint site in a new browser session. when prompted for authentication, DO NOT supply credentials. instead, click cancel. then take note of what is displayed. be sure to also look at the url in the browser. did it redirect?
then, bring up a fresh browser, and navigate to your sharepoint site. at the first login prompt, supply credentials. does the user get prompted for credentials a second time? if so, DO NOT supply the credentials. instead, click cancel and then make note of what is showing on the page. is anything missing... like the company logo ? did the url redirect?
do this a third time... and in this case, supply credentials to the first 2 prompts but not the third.
from the info you gather from the above troubleshooting steps...
if there was something missing from the page, that's an indication that users do not have sufficient permissions to the item. sharepoint will try 3 times to authenticate the user... and then stop trying and just load the page without the item.
did the url redirect at any point? if so, then you may need to extend your web application to a new zone via central admin. extending the application will pass along the credentials to the redirected site... instead of prompting the user for credentials.
if the above items don't help narrow down the issue, i'd recommend also looking at Event Viewer to see if users are failing authentication attempts.

Open IE, Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings/Advance and right there...if you have some proxy enabled, add then your intranet....do not use proxy for those address...
if that's the problem...then you can do that to everyone by GPO....
if not..reset your domain computer tickect..maybe expired.

I'm the only person having the issue, so I don't think the proxy is causing it.
When I input my credentials, everything works as I'd expect. I've looked through all the links and images and it appears everything opens fine, and I'm not prompted for my credentials a second time.
