Open network files arent locking on network
Hi
I have a problem where a customer has a computer on the network that allows it to open files on the network that are open on other computers with out any warning saying this file is in use.
This poses a problem as it doesnt allow the user to save the file at the end and invariably they end up losing their work.
Is there something i can do to fix this as i have no idea how to solve this problem.
Thanks

Hi cmarandi
Thanks for the reply. The files are typically excel and word documents. I would agree with you in what you are saying in that its the file that is controlling the access rights, but my problem is other users on the network get the warning that the files are open, just this one user. That is why I'm a bit perplexed as to why its happening.
The user doesnt have any special access rights that other users have. So this is why I'm stuck.

oh... that is odd.
is he may be the creator of the file?
look at the securities properties of the file... is he may be listed as the owner?

The person that cant open the files isnt the creator. All users are using Office 2007.
Possibly its a bug in the software?

I'm gonna see if I can recreate the problem...
Another thought... can the user open the same file the same way from another PC?
And you said, there is no group membership that's different for this user, correct?

What kind of a file is it? Some files control that. For example, Excel allows you to make it a shared network file and get notified, etc...
It's the file that needs to be modified for the network sharing, not user rights.
