Blank desktop. Blue screen and mouse only.
Windows 2003 server running a domain. I have no icons on the Server desktop, only a mouse. The strange thing is that when I use one of the workstations and remote in via remote desktop, all the server icons show up (on the workstation) and everything is normal. At the server I've tried a Control-Alt-Delete but nothing happens. I've read about renaming the shdocvw.dll file and now that I know I can remote in I can do that but is that the best thing to try first. Network shares are working and accessible from workstations at the momment and I'm affraid if I restart or rename that file the server might not be accesssibly. Any quick thoughts??? Thank you.

Is it possible that it could be something to do with the video card or possibly a weak power supply? Maybe?
I'm sorry....I should have been a little more specific! :) So I'll do step by step to make sure I communicate this properly.
Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Terminal Services Manager. When you click on the server, to the right you should see the users that are connected. Under the session tab, one may have "console" listed as opposed to RDP-TCP#x listed. If there is a user that is connected to the console, right click on that user and select "log off". That may or may not bring up the initial login screen on the console! But it's worth giving it a shot!!!

there is no user listed.
In the left part of the screen.....do you see the server name? It should display a user....as your RDP connection should show up there as well. The session you are currently logged into will show up as green in the connection. If the server is no longer listed go to the Actions Menu and select "connect to computer" and then type in the server name. From there click on the server, and you should see the usernames to the right.

Under Session, it says Server Name, Session is Console and under user it's blank. I've looked for a log off tab but all I can find is a disconnect under session and RDP.
Picture of what it should look like. Then if I wanted to disconnect the admin seesion on RDP-TCP#3, I would just right click on that user and select log off.
