Need help with hot to configure office network for remote access
I have been reading questions and replys for hours and still dont know which way would work best for my office. I basically have a file server set-up on our network. I have assigned usernames and passwords for employees to access a shared drive. I currently do not have a domain set-up. Everyone has a shortcut on their desktop for a shared folder on the server which can be accessed while they are on the local network.
We need to be able to have our employees access the share when they are not on the local network. I have tried Remote Desktop, but it only allows 2 connections.
They access our Microsoft Access database for data entry. I am looking for a secure way to allow them remote access to the database. The database is about 300MB.

The only thing I can think of is VPNing into the network and simply mapping a shared drive to your server. What kind of network are you on?

Mini - Thanks for the prompt response. I'm not sure if I know exactly what you mean by what kind of network. We have a wired/wireless network, no domain, with a static IP. Hope this helps.

Raising points due to time constraints.
You'll probably need a network admin for this kind of thing. We'll need specifics as to the type of router you have, as well as how your server is currently configured.

I am the network admin for our company. We have a small office with about 20 people. I manage the office and do the technical stuff on the side. I dont have a ton of experience in server management, but I have a very technical mind and I want to learn. I guess I really just wanting an opinion on which option is best so I dont go down the wrong route. I can then read up and figure out how to get it done.

We dont have any type of VPN router yet, we just have a 2WIRE 2701HG-B wireless gateway/modem. Our workers are contractors and dont have desktop computers. They each bring in their laptops when they work in the office. If we need different hardware we can get it.
