Exchange server cannot be contacted. When running Best Practices Analyzer
I am trying to run a Health Check with a Performance Baseline check from Microsoft Exchange Best Practices Analyzer. The report comes back very quickly telling me that Exchange server cannot be contacted
Exchange server Server1 is down or unreachable. This could be the result of a network or permissions problem. Error: The network path was not found.
I am then directed to this link:

Im sure the server is up and on the network because clients are able to get in and receive email. I can ping the server, the firewall is not turned on, the Remote Registry service is on, and the account that is running the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool is in both the Enterprise Admin and Exchange Organization Administrator group. Im not sure what else need to be done to run this baseline tool.
Thank You

Are you able to use the Remote Registry service yourself? From your workstation, open regedit, then goto File->Connect Network Registry, and point it to the server (SERVER1).

Yes, and I can navigate all the way down to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Softwar e\Microsof t\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\CurrentV ersion
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Softwar
Can you try running the BPA using the built-in Administrator account's credentials instead?

Not sure how I do that. Do I do a runas or Connect to Active Directory with Advanced login options?
Connect to AD with Advanced Login Options. Or, just log into the machine you have BPA installed on with the SBS's Built-In Administrator Account.

I'm not using Small Business Server. Are you saying I sould log in as server1\Adminstrator? When I do the AD can not validate my credentials.

This solution is only available to members.
To access this solution, you must be a member of Experts Exchange.
Actually... now that I've read your question again... you are using Exchange 2007. So why don't you just run the BPA from the Exchange 2007 Management Console's Tools section?

I have two NICs one is connected to the network the other is connected to a SAN. I had File and Printer Sharing turned off on the SAN NIC which I thought would have no effect. Apparently it did.
Thank You

Thanks...
After starting "remote registry" service issue is resolved.
Now ExBpa is able to contact Exchange server.
