Remotes stopped working to control TV

I have a strange problem that I am trying to solve with IR remotes.    Here is the scenario:

I have a Samsung TV and and a Tivo box.

The Tivo remote controls the Tivo without any problem.
The Tivo remote will no longer control the TV.  It is programmed with the correct code.

The TV IR remote also no longer works on the TV.

All the batteries are fresh.

What is so wierd, is this is the second TV in this room where this has happened.     The Tivo remote worked fine for a few days to control the TV, and then stopped working.     And the TV's remote stopped working at the same time.

What is even more frustrating, is that once in a while both remotes will work to control the TV.
We are only 6 feet from the TV/Tivo when we use the remote.

No kids, but I checked them peanut butter anyway.    All of the lenses look clean.   I gave all the lenses, TV and Remotes an alcohol swapping.     On a lark, last night I tried using the TV remote and it worked.     Then a few hours later, it didn't work.       As I am typing this, I used the remotes from different chairs.  I need to try it again from the exact same spot and angle.
Peanut butter was my only shot.
I'm not sure if if this solved it or not, but the remotes are working again.   So we will call it peanut butter on the lens...
