I am modifying a Delphi 5 Dbase IV application application. There was a single big DBase IV table. It had indexes. That is, it had an MDX file. Now, I have removed this big table and replaced it with two smaller tables. I have not used indexes. For speeding up searches, I have used another technique in the front end.
My question is this - Suppose I do not require indexes for speeding up searches, then why should I create an index at all ? Is there any other reason why an Index is required for a DBase IV table? Is Index and corruption related - that is, if I do not have any index in a Dbase IV table, am I increasing the chances of corruption?
Could someone please advise? I have not used DBase before.
