asked on

what does the "default" accepted domain mean?

In exchange 2007 emc in the accepted domains tab, you have "name, accepted domain, type and default"
what does the default column mean?

i have mydomain.local and mydomain.com
the mydomain.local is marked true in the default column.
should i change that to be the .com?

Accepted domains are any Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) namespace for which an Exchange organization sends and receives e-mail. Accepted domains include those domains for which the Exchange organization is authoritative. An Exchange organization is authoritative when it handles mail delivery for recipients in the accepted domain. Accepted domains also include domains for which the Exchange organization receives mail and then relays to an e-mail server that is outside the Exchange organization for delivery to the recipient.

thanks for the articles. they were very helpful. why would there be a need to change the "default" accepted domain anyway??
yes, to .com as the users would be using their company.com email addresses to send/receive emails
Like joewy1, I'd like to know... What is the purpose of changing the default accepted  and what does it affect? My searches aren't turning up much.
