Have this Dell T3400  machine with XP PRO, the USB mouse in any USB port will stop working after so long, the machine has to be restarted to fix the problem.

In the device driver the USB section all looks ok, no error marks located there.
Does anyone have a solution to try?
Also if not can I bring the mouse back to life by a service running ?  Stinks having to restart each time.

Thanks.

I had the same problem on 100's of those machines here at work!

Fixed it by running three updates you can find on Dell's website.
BIOS udpate
Chipset update
Desktop System Software update

and problem was gone

Regarding Desktop System Software update:
If you look at the description for "Fixes and Enhancements"
1. Changed USB driver support in Windows 2000 SP3/SP4
2. Updated USB driver support in Windows XP SP2
3. Added support for new systems

The description for it says, "Desktop System Software (DSS) is a utility that provides critical updates and patches for your operating system. Install the DSS program to gain support for Dell 3.5-inch USB floppy drives, CD-ROM/CD..."
