Error Creating Key in Registry

Hi Experts,

I have a system running Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4 and when I go to regedit and try to
create a KEY under HKey_local_machine>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Explorer>Browser Helper Objects and I right click on Browser Helper Objects and select New> Key, I get this error message: Cannot create key: Error while opening the key Browser Helper Objects. I can create a key anywhere else in the registry but in this particular area. Any ideas why not?

Already checked permissions for that key?
Also try in safe mode. Some program might be accessing it.

Qlemo,  i've right clicked on the key and even on the parent key and I don't have properties to view the permissions. Even when I right click on Hkey_Local_Machine or Software??

Mohd Had,  I'll try safe mode when i get back from lunch.

i'll update you guys in an hour.

same results in safe mode....Qlemo.
To change permissions of registry key in windows 2000, you need to run regedt32.exe from winnt\system32 folder. Here you can navigate to the required key and then set the permissions. But first try in safe mode.
thanks Shift-3, I used the commane rededt32 and i was able to make the necessary changes.
