Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Error: The VPN client driver has encountered an error
Hello Experts!
I'm working with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client on Vista 32-bit, SP1, connecting to a ASA 5520. I get past authentication, the software downloads, installs and all is well. It says establishing a VPN connection, then a message pops up that says, "The VPN client driver has encountered an error". I thought I'd try here first before going to TAC. Has anybody had this problem and resolved it?
Thanks!

You didn't say which ASA software or which AnyConnect version you're using...
ASKER
Sorry, it's a ASA5520 running 8.0.4. I've got ASDM 6.1.3 loaded too. The AnyConnect client is 2.2.0136. I also tried all this on the last, sequential previous rev (8.0.3, etc) and had the same results. Went to 8.0.4 while troubleshooting.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Are you fixed I cant it working either?
ASKER
Nope - nothing yet...
I can't get mine to work either, I am having the same issues with a user who has the Danish version of XP
and here some stuff I did http://www.petenetlive.com/Tech/Firewalls/Cisco/SSLvpn.htm

Thanks for sharing your notes. Unfortunately it doesn't solve my problem. I've got/had SSL VPN working fine in XP. The problem I'm having is with using the AnyConnect client on Vista 32. Again, I'm getting "The VPN client driver has encountered an error". I don't get this error on XP -- everything works fine on XP.
Regarding 8.0.4, we've found some interoperability issues with certain applications that users are utilizing over IPSec VPN. We've since backed off to 8.0.3. Still the same problem with AnyConnect problem with Vista, though
I'm thinking the problem exists in the AnyConnect client when installed on Vista. Have you tried AnyConnect on a Vista machine with your current config?

Not yet but I will :) there are problems - with XP clients that have been upgraded to Vista with Cisco VPN' clients was this fresh install of vista?
Tested on Vista Ultimate Sp1 and it works

Thanks, Pete. I guess I've got some more testing to do. I only tested on one Vista machine, which is my laptop. I've got some other vista machines that I will test on and post back here. Did you encounter the error that I posted at all? I'm running Vista SP1 as well. Thanks.

no mate :( it just worked - do you have a valid smartnet to open a TAC Case?

hehe thought at much - quick question for you - on the portal - when you click the "browse networks" link then click "Browse Entire Network" what happens?
ASKER
Not using the portal -- just the AnyConnect client in place of the IPSec client.
OK Fair enuf me and TAC have spent two days trying to get that button to work :( glad you got there in the end :)
Gah! I'm having this same problem and I need to get this particular computer working!
i am having a similar issue:
-IS specific to my Lenovo X6xx laptop (not many other Lenovo's @ work, i am guessing model # is irrelevant)
-Vista 32bit, ASA firewall, AnyConnect client
-AnyConnect is updated to new version, had same problem on old version
-First time I start AnyConnect, it will give me the welcome text, and then Accept/Cancel
-I get "The VPN client driver encountered an error"
-Then if I close the dialouge box and re-open (and re-try) it works
-If I simply just re-try it still fails
Not a deal-breaker for me, but each time i use it i have to wait for it to time out and generate the error before i can actually use the VPN, so any help would be appreciated. I will post mine as a new question if recommended, this current thread is SO CLOSE though....

With some machines, I've noticed that I have to download the client to the PC and execute the installer that way. Also note that it doesn't always work on the first try. Sometimes, it works after installing the client, uninstalling it, then installing it again.
The problem maybe with Apple Software installed on your system, usually iTunes.
Read the release notes. There is a huge bug in the VIsta OS fixed by this hotfix.

1st option is to analyze and repair the db by running as administrator the following command
Run esentutl /g %systemroot%\System32\catr oot2\{F750 E6C3-38EE- 11D1-85E5- 00C04FC295 EE}\catdb.
Then reboot. If not working yet try
Run in safe mode:
1) Net stop cryptsvc
2) Ren c:\windows\system32\catroo t2 c:\windows\system32\catroo t2_old
3) reboot
Run esentutl /g %systemroot%\System32\catr

Mcaffee was my culprit. I turn it off when I launch my AnyConnect VPN client.
