Hotmail SIgn in page does not display
Freind just advised that he can no longer see the Hotmail sign in page. This is a Vista machine and up until recent, dont know exactly what that is, he could not get the sign in page.
I have deleted cookies and temps. I have reset securities.
Regardless of typing in hotmail.com or accessing via MSN.com which displays properly, it just loads a blank white page.

weird if I type in live.login.live.com it works, but does not with hotmail.com and its referall.
So, http://login.live.com works. Then for some reason, hotmail.com is not redirecting you to the login site.
If using Vista and you get an error, run ipconfig from an elevated command prompt. To get an elevated command prompt, right-click on the "Command Prompt" shortcut and select "Run as Administrator".

ok did flush no change.
If http://login.live.com works, do you need to know why hotmail.com does not work? Check your HOSTs file, to see if you have specified an old IP address for hotmail.com or live.com

Interesting developement. After realising that the login.live.com would work, it only worked once and then would not. I had to go in and delete cookies and temp files again and then it went in?

New finding: When you sign on via the login live, you get an error box that says that Internet explorer cannot open the internet site. Then it goes into a long error message about httpd://accountservices.pa ssport.net /......... ........

OK I think you are on the right track here is what I have determined: If I look at the "about IE 7" under help, there is no cyberstrenght or version number there.
IE is apparrently corrupted or just the securities.
Any thoughts?

Anyone think I can download IE7 and just reinstall it over this corrupt copy in Vista?
Stardotstar, no, you cannot reinstall IE7 over existing one. IE7 is part of OS in Vista. You have to reinstall Vista to reinstall IE7.

Stardotstar, glad the problem is fixed.
Hotmail login page is a live.com page. http://login.live.com/
Hotmail.com should redirect you to the above page, If not,
1. Clear your DNS cache. Go to Start > Run and type CMD
and hit OK.
At the command prompt, type ipconfig /flushDNS
and hit OK.
2. Clear your cache. Go to Tools > Internet Options > General tab. Under Temporary Internet Files, click "Delete Files" button. Also click "Delete Cookies" button. Click OK.
3. Reset the Maximum Transmission Unit in the registry
http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/280/
4. If no joy, check if your PC is blocking the site. Do a search for HOSTS file and open it with an editor like Notepad. Delete any line that has the blocked site in it.
HOSTS file is located in
Windows XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVER
Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\
Win 98/ME = C:\WINDOWS
It is a hidden file. Go to any folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.
5a. If you are using Internet Explorer, check if the site is restricted or blocked. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security. Highlight Restricted Sites and see if the blocked site is located there.
5b. Also under Content tab > Content Advisor, check if the site is restricted there. Remove it.
5c. Also, under Security tab, add the website to your trusted zone.
6. Check if antispyware, antivirus, or firewall is blocking the website. Disable these programs one by one.
Hope this helps!
