Remote desktop - "Invalid server name" Other computers are allowed in
Currently we have a W2k3 SBS server and things have been working great. Just this week though some users are not able to get into their remote desktop. I can connect on my machine at home and even one person can use his desktop to connect but now not his laptop which is in the same house on the same connection. We can log in and use OWA just not remote desktop, error message is 'An invalid server name was specified'
Both computers trying to connect use IE6 and appear to be up to date, my own machine that I tried and it worked is IE6 but I also was able to get in through IE7. When I say get in I mean into the remote desktop login, past the remote web workplace section.
I suspect it has something to do with cached files or stored cookies. I cleared all that and nothing so far.

I've been looking at that post through google usenet search and followed the instructions to no avail. Indeed spybot was installed and the version they specified. Unfortunately those forum links don't load anymore so I can't see anymore details.
Whats interesting is this computer has been in its present state for a year at least and only started having this problem last week.....
Thanks but I think we need to keep searching for more answers. ;(

I had the same problem with a computer that was working before until they updated to IE 7.0 and Windows Service Pack 3. I did not try what was mentioned directly above, however I did remove the RDP references to the key:
{7584C670-2274-4EFB-B00B-D 6AABA6D385 0}
Simply by running regedit and running a find for this key, delete all entries corresponding, then retry your connection. The registry should rebuild the connection entries and activex from scratch.
In addition try ensuring it is not security settings on your browser affecting the particular site by adding it to your trusted sites and making sure your trusted sites security level is set to low.

I had the same problem, but fixed it by re-enabling the RWW add-on under internet options, programs, manage add-ons.
