Terminal Services could not locate a license server

Hello,

We have environment with two locations, one a main site, and one is a disaster recovery site (which thanks to Gustav is where I am right now).  The terminal server license server is our Active Directory Server at our main location.  We have a second active directory server at our Disaster Recovery Site, which I just found out does not have terminal server licensing installed.

The main site is down, and there is no connectivity between the main and disaster recovery site.  The terminal server at the disaster recovery site will not accept incoming Remote Desktop connections, and in the application log, I see the error "the terminal services could not locate a license server.  confirm that all license servers are on the network, are registered in WINS/DNS, accepting network requests and the terminal server license service is running.

Should I just install terminal server licensing on the active directory server at the disaster recovery site (through add/remove programs/ windows components?  Will I mess something up by installing this before the server at the disaster recovery site can communicate with the license server at the main site?  Is there any chance it will correctly serve terminal server licenses without being able to first communicate with the server at the main site (which is where the terminal server CAL was enetered)?

Are there any other steps that I might need to do?

PS: All servers are Windows 2000.
Thanks,
SOLUTION

Darkfriend,

Thanks for your reply, sorry for my dely in replying, it's been rather crazy recently :)

Our disaster recovery site does do application serving, and it works fine when the two sites are connected, but does not work when the disaster recovery site is disconnected from the main site.

FYI, Our RDP clients are Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional.

The company in question purchased a "MS Windows Terminal Server 20 CAL - License Only" and the license server at the main site was activiated, and the License code for the 20 TSCAL was entered.

I recently installed Terminal Server Licensing at the disaster recovery site on the Active Directory Server but the Terminal Server Licensing program shows it is Not Activated.

Can I activate the disaster recovery site Terminal Server license server and use the same set of 20 CAL licenses?  Do I need to enter them in again?  Will my terminal server at the disaster recovery site work when the connection to the main site is down?

Thanks in advance to any answers from anyone :)

I glad you got that working.  Sorry I missed you.  I got busy with automotive.  Seems there is always work to do.  I didn't think you would get the same licenses to work on each.  Lucky break finding the old 20TSCALs.  Glad I could at least keep you thinking about it.  Good luck with the tests.  I'm sure it will work out perfectly.
