on opening programs the installation process starts for something called ergir.msi!
Suddenly when I start opening programs or open disk drives  on my winxp pro desktop the installation process will start.  I cancel it and i can then proceed to do what i started to do.  all i can see on this is that there is a file called ergir.msi involved.  I did a webroot spyware scan and get no errors.  cant find anything on the internet for this either.  anybody seen this?

Try the SuperAntiSpyware I recommended or LavaSoft Adaware or SpyBot Search & Destroy.  All are free programs, and what one program misses, one of the others might catch.  Meanwhile, have you done a search for this ergir.msi file on your hard drive?  Or an entry for it in your registry?

Any update on this ? how is the situation now ?

i only found one entry in the registry with this program referenced - deleted, no good. I will try the spywares listed above and see if they find anything, and be back.  thank you for continued help!
