Converting Netware Scripts to AD login scripts

I have been assigned the job of recreating all the current Netware 6 drive mappings in our Windows Server 2003 AD. Scripts have been applied at the global level and at many sub-containers (The organization is a 600 bed hospital-the largest in this rural state-with hundreds of remote sites each with their own container and script.) I would appreciate any feedback concerning the best approach to recreate the current environment. A single login script would be very large (and slow) but easier than managing so many scripts at the sub-container level.
I am also wondering what would be the scripting language-VBScript, Powershell, or even Kixtart. The PCs are primarily Windows XP sp2 but there are some Windows 2000 Pro sp4 I believe. I don't know if .net 2.0 framework is installed on all the PCs though but it could probably be accomplished. We want to make it as universal as possible so that many can easily support it.
