How to change the product key in Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
Hello All,
Just created an account and thought I would post a simple question.
I want to change my product key within Windows XP Service Pack 3. It was real easy with Service Pack 2, so please skip the sysprep answers. Yes, sysprep is the correct answer. Why did Microsoft produce key changing software?
I used KeyUpdateTool_enu.exe and it worked fine. I work for a company and have a valid reason to change laptop imagines. So skip the why are you doing this questions.
Yes, I could drop back to SP2 and change the key, then reinstall SP3. But again, why? The KeyUpdateTool_enu.exe sent information to Microsoft and I am fine with that.
With all that out of the way. I am looking for software to replace KeyUpdateTool_enu.exe. Any ideas.
Thanks for the response in advance!
I attached KeyUpdateTool_enu.exe if anyone has a need. It was real simple and produced by Microsoft. Just add the .exe after the download

Thanks Mole,
That worked at one time but unfortunately Magic Jelly Bean will view but not change. I will look into the other suggestion.
I like the format of experts-exchange. Many people experience the same problems. If you search the web, you will find nothing but junk. Downloading software is problematic as well. I hope this site works out!
Thanks Again,

I have seen KB/328874, it was produced as a way around the WGA ordeal. I guess I could try that. Such a hassle, I have valid product keys on all products, I just image a lot and didnt use sysprep.
The Microsoft key changer worked great, change the key and rename the computer&done. All legal, as a good corporate Microsoft soldier should be.
I will look into Magic Jelly Bean again. The version I have does a great job of viewing, but will not allow a change.

This is simple and easy
1- start > run > "regedit" (without the quotes of course)
2- go to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAR E\MICROSOF T\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvent s\OOBETime r
...and doubleclick on it. Then change some of the value data to ANYTHING ELSE...delete some, add some letters, I don't care...just change it!
now close out regedit.
3- go to start > run > "%systemroot%\system32\oob e\msoobe.e xe /a" (again, dont type the quotes)
4- the activation screen will come up, click on register over telephone, then click on CHANGE PRODUCT KEY, enter in this key: JG28K-H9Q7X-BH6W4-3PDCQ-6X BFJ and click update
Enjoy

This is the type of answer I was looking for when I signed up. Simple answer to annoying problem.

side note bec i dont know your procedures but imaging machines without sysprepping will cause duplicate SIDs and cause security breaches...SIDWalker or other utils will do the job also like checking the box to regenerate SIDs in sysprep.
