$ ulimit -a
time(seconds)        unlimited

data(kbytes)         unlimited

memory(kbytes)       unlimited
coredump(blocks)     unlimited
nofiles(descriptors) 1024
$ ulimit -n 2048
ksh: ulimit: 0403-045 The specified value is outside the user's allowable range.


When am trying to extend the ulimit size its not allowing me....
it is AIX Server ML6 and service pack 3

You have to chuser in aix to set the parameters there.

I don't have an AIX bot near me at the moment, try using smit.

It means that one of the ulimits you attempt to set is limited in your environment (by your administrator).

Throught administrator (ROOT) i cant install the files. Need to install in other user which is a dba...  kindly let me know on the same.

You must get your administrator to change the limit for your user id.

are you definately logged in as "root", not "ROOT", can you use smitty?
