System using up CPU resources

I just installed XP on my Asus G50V-x1.  It came with Vista and I was unhappy with it's resource usage.  So, I installed XP.  Just sitting there, the System process is using 80%+ of my CPU.  I've looked around, but I've not seen any questions referring to the System process being the culprit for high CPU usage.

Thanks.

This next article will help to explain how there are several reasons for high CPU Usage such as the System process.
Out of date drivers, corrupt applications, viruses, trojans, insufficient(or faulty) RAM, etc., may also be worth checking out ..

"High CPU Usage":

Thought it was worth including another earlier thread.  Although the problem is not quite the same as yours, it does contain a number of good ideas ..

"System running 75% or worse + won't fully shutdown":

It also includes a link to another useful thread>
