Issue with BIOS AHCI Controller issue

Guys,

I'm having an issue with my Dell Precision 490 workstation. Basically when i turn it on, it seems to get through the various POST tests ok, but just before it gets to booting, it says that AHCI BIOS not installed - strike F1 to continue or F2 for setup utility.

I'm basically having the same issues as Question ID: 22824272
Full error message below:

"Controller Bus#00, Device#1F, Function#02: 00 Ports
No device found
AHCI BIOS not installed.

No boot device available-
strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"

I've tried rebooting the PC, I've tried with both PS/2 and USB keyboards. I've swapped out the SAS controller card with an identical one. I've also removed the BIOS battery but nothing seems to be working.

I would be surprised if the hard drive was dead as the SAS card detects the drive in the POST tests.

I've tried the solutuions in the question ID i referenced above, but that doesn't seem to have made any difference. Does anyone have any  other suggestions?

Thanks

Has this machine ever worked properly?  It sounds like the SAS controller is missing a BIOS ROM - some controllers come with one and others do not.  You need a BIOS ROM on the controller if you want to boot from the SAS drive, even if the drive works fine.

If it used to work and now doesn't, there is something interfering with the boot process, and you will need to unplug everything and remove extra RAM and PCI cards to try to locate what is doing it.
