Email Error: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay

I have a form which sends an email. It was working fine until our corporate office's email server when down. After they fixed it, the form stopped working. I'm getting:
Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for email@example.com
It works fine for anyone that's within our domain. But if fails for anyone outside of our domain. My theory is that when they rebuilt the mail server they didn't enable relaying. The problem is, they don't intend to re-enable relaying ... so I'm on my own.
Is there any way to send an email so that it won't matter if relaying is enabled? What other options do I have?
