Error creating shadow copies of a volume...VolSnap Event ID 28

I have a MS Windows 2003 Server Standard SP2. This server is my backup server running Symantec Backup Exec and Symantec Continuous Protection Server (Version 11d) I am getting an error in the System Log at the scheduled time when CPS is scheduled to take a "snapshot" of the volume that contains the CPS backup data. A screen shot of the error is attached.
A reboot of the server seems to clear this error but it returns at the beginning of each week. I did find this MS KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833167) but this hot fix only applies to servers running SP1 (It will not allow me to install this since I'm at SP2)
Symantec indicates that this error is not a Symantec issue. Any advice would be apprectiated.

So I see this chain has dried up... It happened again this Monday morning. Keep in mind... i do not do any snapshots over the weekend (SAT and SUN) The last snapshot is taken on Friday evening at 10PM. It is supposed to restart again on Monday at 6AM. That is when it fails. A reboot fixes the issue but that will become unsustainable. Any further suggestions?

Sounds like backup exec, it uses it to backup the servers and to quesce the file system during the backups.  The new version came out today, may be worth a try.  I've had issues like this with Backup Exec but not CPS, I'll try to check my notes and see if I have ever seen this.

Updating to a new version of Backup Exec isn't exactly a solution.  If you haven't paid to keep up their wonderful support service, it'll cost you a pretty penny.  A solution to the problem with the current software is what is needed.  It's always a case of a software vendor blaiming Microsoft, or Microsoft blaiming a software vendor.  Meanwhile, we're left with purchasing an upgrade that may or may not work.

And that is exactly the issue I am facing... Symantec says its a MS thing...

have you tried to recreate the jobs?I know it's not the best solution but after spending countless hours with MS and Symantec support it's normally easier to re-install the software and try from scratch.

I did , just recently, recreate the 1  CPS job I have running. I am only using CPS to support one server. I had not reinstalled the software but that seems a bit drastic seeing as it had been functioning without issue for well over a month.

Nothing Else?  Oh well... another in a long line of Symantec products that don't live up to expectations... outside of their lab.

CPS is not one of my favorite either.  Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery does a nice job though. We have customers use Replication Exec for replicating and it has also done a decent job.  Sorry I can't help you any more, try escalating with Symantec until they get you a US tech, normally these guys are the top level support
