Ring overseas - number syntax - very simple

I'm trying to call a tech-support phone number as shown below. Dialing from Australia to America, where I have to dial 0 to get an outside line. I've tried putting a '01' (1 is the country code) before the number and that doesn't work. I am an admin and have made sure I have international dialing permissions, so I just need to know what to punch into the phone since I've never dialed overseas before and a quick Google didn't help.

International Dialling Code / International Access Code / IDD Code (0011)
To dial overseas from Australia you will need to first dial the Australia IDD code which is 0011 followed with the overseas phone number including the country code.

United States of America Country Code is +1

Have you used 0011 in front of the number for dialing international numbers?

I dialed 0 + the above number and got through, only to find they're not available at whatever time it is over there.
Thanks for the help
