Roxio DVD Creator won't run, can't be removed, and can't be reinstalled

I'm trying to burn a DVD from video files on my hard drive, using Roxio Creator, which came with my Dell computer.

The program wasn't running so I tried to reinstall, first uninstalling. I found that a number of Roxio programs are listed in the "Add or Remove Programs" window, but all are blank under the "Size"  column. I tried installing from the Roxio CD; a message comes up that it needs to uninstall the old version first; when I click to do that, the installer locks up -- it continually displays the "must uninstall first" window, and when told to do that, after a few moments displays the same window again.

I tried to launch Roxio Creator Tools from the Programs list; an error message comes up: "A certificate file is missing or corrupted."

How do I clean the old version off so I can reinstall? Or, lacking that, is there some other DVD software I can buy, and just ignore the inoperative Roxio?

Hi,
try doing this in safemode, this way you ensure all the services are not running and roxio is free from windows.
also remove any blank discs from the dvd recorder.
With DVD software installing any other versions while the current is still on the system is not advised,
will just compound the problem.
There should always be only one software installed for DVD burning.
You can also use Windows Installer Clean Up Utility
check here for how to
