We are replacing arcserve with Backup Exec, install went fine however, Backup Exec is unable to 'control' the tape drive. It can 'see' it and the tape but it you schedule a job or ask it to erase the tape the job just sits on 'running' and eventually fails with error E0008821. The tape drive is a Dell PV114T is on the compatibility list and has the latest drivers. Any assistance appreciated.

Hi roger190667,

I have had plenty of issues with backupexec and tape drives. Firstly I would suggest that you use Backupexec's version of the tape drive's driver. DO NOT use the manufacturer's drivers.

Secondly, SHUTDOWN the server and boot it up again. A normal reboot does not work.

Hope it helps.

Cheers.
