Project release settings in Configuration Manager

Hi,

We have several large websites based upon an n-tier application (so we have data layers, business layers etc). One of my tasks is to carry out the releases to the live production environment.

When I do a release to the production environment I set the solution configuration to PRODUCTION as setup by a colleague of mine. However, when I look at the Configuration Manager for PRODUCTION in Vsual Studio, all the website projects are set to Debug and not Release like the application levels.

The website projects do not have a Release mode, only Debug.

1) Is this correct or should the website options be in Release mode as well?

2) If so why is Release mode not available for the websites within our configuration manager?

3) Are the websites being released in Release mode or is Debug code I'm releasing?

Hopefully the attached screenshot will explain my question further, any help or explanation would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance, Ben.
