failed mouse pointer

The left mouse button on my dell laptop has lost its physical 'click' making it difficult to use, just touching the button will activate a command.  Can these be replaced?  Where can I get a replacement?  How difficult to DIY the task?  The laptop is out of warranty.

you can try to clean it - may be dirt accumulated..
but you'll have to open your laptop for that
in most cases, the unit is replaced as a whole
