Hello,
My pavilion laption LCD goes blank but I can barely see the screen. It is too dark to read anything but it is trying to show something. Sometines the display is fine but after a few minutes it goes dark again. The only way to see anything is to use an external monitor. I bought a backlight inverter from eBay (twice) and that did not resolve the issue. What are the reasons for this problem? I suppose the LCD screen could be bad but would this be caused by something else? This is a hardware issue somehow.

If you have experience with this model or series of laptops I would sure appreicate your suggestions. I bought it for my son to use in college but it isn't of much use the way that it is.

Thanks,
John

>> but I can barely see the screen  <<    this indicates the backlight is bad (can also be the inverter, but since you replaced that, i think it is the lights..)

I am curious about the backlight. What is it and where can I find more information about it? I replaced the inverter twice (and I believe that is what it is called). The inverter is this little circuit piece that plugs in at the base of the display and in the laptop. I replaced it twice. The first time was with an item that had compatible stock numbers. The second one had the same stock or item number. So, if that was the inverter how do I find more information about the backlight? Also, is it easy to replace? Thank you.

Thank you! This saves me from having to purchase another similar laptop for parts.
