Development problems with Interwoven Desksite

Hi there,

I'm currently working on getting some integration between our flagship company product and Interwoven, a Document Management System. Interwoven has an integration API which we've used to build a website which profiles documents immediately on completion of assembly from HD. However, I've been trying to integrate this into a 3rd party app written by one of my colleagues, and I'm getting some strange errors. When I profile a document into interwoven, and then try to open it by double-clicking on the file from Desksite, I get the following:

--------------------------------------------------------------
1st Error Dialog

The operation could not be performed on these document(s)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-  Number :140      Version :1      (Microsoft Word)

The Reason(s):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-  Could not launch application to open the document 140.1. -  Application was not found.

--------------------------------------------------------------
2nd Error Dialog:

Manage32: [NRTDatabase ][GetDocumentArtifactInfo ]GetDocumentArtifactInfo : This operation is currently not available

iManage.NRTDMS.2

Can anyone shed any light on why this might be happening or where these errors are coming from? I'm having little luck with googling, and need to know if this could maybe be an installation error or something I'm doing wrong in the API - not sure.

Any help would be massively appreciated...

Cheers

I'm not on the dev side of worksite, but i would suggest to register at devnet.interwoven.com and post in the forums there, as that is pretty much the place to go for interwoven support.

well maybe you can help me then - I don't think this problem is on the development side of interwoven now. Basically, if I check out a document from interwoven to the desktop, I can open it fine. If however, I double-click on a document in the document worklist and select open, I get the following error:

"Word experienced an error trying to open the file.
Try these suggestions:
Check the file permissions for the document or drive
Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space
Open the file with the Text Recovery converter"

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this error? I am going to try reinstalling desksite (of which we are using version 8.2.87) and if that doesn't work, I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

some things to try:
- checking file permissions and share permissions on the server for the Share folders (unlikely to make a difference but worth a check)
- checking the logs in Service Manager whenever you try to open a file and see what error messages come up in the log.
- Can you open word first and hit open from word. can you open the file from word directly?

Hi there,

Thanks for your help on this matter. In response to your questions:

I checked the server share folders, but I wasn't sure which ones you were referring to - do you mean the permissions for the folder in which the versions of the documents are set? Everything seemed fine there.

The logs gave some interesting errors which I've put into a file and attached on the end of this post. The first error message is what I was getting before I fixed it by locating word on the local machine, and the second is from the error log from worksite. I think the first part of the log (first six or seven lines) is relating to this error and the rest is when I stopped and started the worksite engine, but I'm not sure.

Finally, when I open word and go File > Open > Open file from desksite, it works fine. It seems that only when I double-click on the file from inside interwoven desksite there's a problem - it can't find the file.

I appreciate the help mate.

Cheers

Hi there,

I'm just posting an email I sent to interwoven support in the hope that someone out there knows what is going on and can help me.

Email:

Hi there,

I was wondering if you had any further information about my interwoven issue regarding having problems with opening files through interwoven? Basically, the situation at the moment is that our installation of interwoven is functioning correctly, but when I double-click on a file in the document worklist (to open it in MS Word) there is a problem in that Word opens, displays some messages about macros, etc, and then gives me the following error message:

"Word experienced an error trying to open the file.
Try these suggestions:
Check the file permissions for the document or drive (file permissions should be set by interwoven)
Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space (lots of free space, 5 gig or so)
Open the file with the Text Recovery converter" (this wouldn't really help, we're looking for automatic document opening from desksite)

This is the only time there is a problem. I am able to check out a document and then open it by double-clicking on the file on the desktop, I am able to use quickview to view the document, and I am able to find the file which has been saved in the NRPortBl directory in the C: drive (after I double-click on the file in the d. worklist and get nothing), double-click it and open that file. All very strange - there is obviously some linkage error between interwoven desksite and MS word - if you could shed any light on what is happening, I would really appreciate it.

Cheers

Andy,
apologies for late reply.. im sure interwoven have probably already resolved this for you (or are on the way to).. i would open the Database admin program and check the 'app setup' table of your Database to see that the .doc extensions are properly associated with the Word application with the correct path, or is at least listed in the table.
