It is possible to sync contact to other clients. With the forming of an open standard SyncML there are various services offered.

There are various service providers providing the service of syncing contacts with other clients.

I prefer myfunambol. It offers Client support for
   * Outlook plug-in
    * Mozilla/Thunderbird plug-in
    * BlackBerry PIM plug-in
    * Yahoo! PIM Connector
    * and more!
If you can afford to setup a SyncML Servers , you can possible use any
of the clients like Thunderbird, Sunbird, Mac OX System Addressbook

I prefer Funambol as it is an open-source server and you can add more client
connectors.

That sounds interesting, but the specific pocket PC in question is an old-school pocket pc.  No phone, etc.  This person needs to be able to sync to pretty much anything other than outlook, via a desktop sync if possible. (due to preference, and cost reasons.)

Now for MY pocket PC, I'll be checking myfunambo out later today!
