How to create XP images on new Windows Deployment Services

I recently installed a fresh copy of Windows Server 2008 and added the Windows Development Services.  How do I create an XP image for PXE Boot in WDS?  I have uses RIS in the past.  I know it starts out by wanting to take an image from the XP Pro CD.  WDS wants a .WIM file from the CD.  Only Vista and Server 2008 have .WIM files on the installation CD.  How do I create an Install image for XP?  Also, how do I pull an image from a machine that has XP?

Hi there!

You can use a free piece of software called ImageX to capture a windows xp WIM from an existing setup. You can then add the WIM either by copying it to the appropriate folder or by using the management tool's add image command.

You can download ImageX here:

It's all pretty user friendly and self-explanatory but if you get stuck at any point please post back here and we'll work through it. :)

I managed to use BDD 2007 and WAIK to create my images.
