cisco 3560

i have a cisco 3560 switch that has voip vlan. i am trying to modify this statement:
 monitor session 1 source vlan 4
I need to add " both "  after this command
i did config t
 monitor session 1 source vlan 4 both....does not work.
help

Your command should work. Try doing a "no" command to clear your current monitor session and make new one. Please note that you CANNOT have more than 2 active SPANs on a switch.
Here is the answer to your question - in the 3560 the "both" keyword is not required. If not otherwise specified, the SPAN session will monitor both by default.
So, your command to use would be:
monitor session 1 source vlan 4
