Is there a way to prevent Outlook from adding birthdays in my contacts to the calendar?

I don't believe so it's an automatic feature with no control interface to the best of my knowledge

Agreed it's a shame ... I guess it made sense to someone but an option would have been nice but AFAIK this is not the case even in outlook 2007.
