Motorola Q deleting email messages from Exchange mailbox

I have read a lot of questions regarding the deletion of email messages from the exchange server when deleting from a Motorola Q phone, but, all of the ones that I have read are the opposite of what I want to happen.  I have a client who has a Motorola Q on the Verizon network.  I have him setup with his exchange email address POPed in his phone.  When he deletes a message from his phone, it deletes that message from his exchange mailbox.  How can I get the phone to only delete the message from his phone and NOT from the exchange mailbox?

There is no setting on the Q to leave messages on the server.  Unless they have added this recently. One big complaint.

I setup the email on his phone several months ago and when I set it up it was not deleting messages but recently it has started deleting them from the server.  No change in setup was performed.

It is working like it is designed now.  I spent awhile trying to figure out a way to do this a long time ago.  I finally said tough luck.  Exchange push, leave them in the deleted items.  Or Imap maybe.  Or get a different phone.
