Large word Doc Crashes when sorting table

Hi experts.

I have a problem with sorting large tables in word documents.  These tables contain photos, words etc.  This problem happens when I click the sort document.  Sometimes it freezes and starts to work through the document slowly, but other times it freezes.

These documents can be over 10MB each.  Can word effectively work with these documents or should I be using another product?

fessiambre,

Hello.

I would recommend another solution for this issue. Excel would probably be your easist solution as you could put the data into the excel cells and then utilize the excel sorting features (3 levels by default in 2003, many more available in 2007). I often sort worksheets with 20+ columns and 10,000 to 30,000 rows of data. So somewhere around 200,000 to 600,000 individual cells. With text and numbers, the sorts take less than 1 second to execute, which is really fast.

Stability in Excel during data manipulation and sorting is probably 100 times more reliable than word.
