Trying to install MSDOS 6.22 on VirtualPC

Can anyone give advice on DOS its years since I really used it, and I was never a DOS expert.  I need to move an old application which runs on DOS to a newer PC, and for the time being, I have to keep it running on DOS.  That is a must for now, so I need to set DOS up to run on some modern hardware for total compatibility.

There are a couple of things Im looking for.

1.  A good source of a legal copy of MS-DOS 6.22 (I may consider using a possible alternative e.g. FreeDos, but for absolute certainty, Id rather duplicate the exact environment Im trying to port the system from i.e. MSDOS 6.22).  I dont mind buying a copy of it from a good site.

2.  Can I run MSDOS successfully on MS VirtualPC 2007.  I realise it wont be officially supported, but Im not so bothered about the official support, Im more interested in whether anyone has had any problems trying to run it on Virtual PC (any tips ?).

Hi willcomp,

Thanks for the link - looks good valid advice, and hopefully it will run without too much hassle.

I'll come back to award points later, but was also hoping to hear of a recommended site to obtain a valid (legal) copy of MSDOS 6.22 ?  Anyone ?

Thanks in the meantime.

Look on versiontracker.com for DOSBOX. It's a Dos emulator for the Mac that runs most dos programs. The floating point math may be a bit different than Dos on the PC side though.
