Cant sync new mobile device (HTC Touch Pro wm6.1) but old (HTC Touch Cruise wm 6.0) works fine using Activesync and Exchange 2007 on windows server 2008

Hi
I have struggled with this for a while now. I bought a new HTC Touch Pro yesterday and when i shold set it up for sync with our exchange it just wont work. My old device syncs just fine.
I have the following configuration:
Windows server 2008, Exchange 2007, no SSL, no cert.

Old device:
HTC Touch Cruise, WM 6.0 - works fine

New device:
HTC Touch Pro, WM 6.1 - not working

I get the following Error messages:
When connected to the PC, "The server could not be reached. This could be caused by temporary network conditions" Support Code: 0x80072EE2
When not connected, Support Code: 0x85010001

Any ideas?

Sounds like your data connection from your phone is not set up correctly.  Double check your settings with your mobile provider.

Also to test, open up Internet Explorer and browse to:
https://domain/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSyn

If IE can find the website, it should ask you for a username and password which you can enter domain\user and its password.  Once you do this, IE will give an error which is normal as you can't view anything here with IE.

If it can't find the server, IE is more likely to give you a better indication of why.

http://domain/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync works fine in IE (except for the error as you mentioned)

Regarding the data connection, I can use the internet from the device.

When i try to sync through USB there is no message on the device (it tries until it has a timeout).
When i sync "disconnected" i get a message saying "Syncing folders" (but in swedish) and then the errorcode 0x85010001

I found a solution.
I had to connect with SSL and not through my PC.
When i did that it asked me to update som security settings on my HTC (password protection and encryption) and after that it worked.
I think that the enhanced security is mandatory with WM 6.1

Yes, the phone will try and access the internet via your computer when it is connected.  I haven't bothered looking for a way around this...
