Hi there;

I simply cannot locate the path that i am going to put my php files under XAMPP...

When i write localhost to my browser, he goes to C:\xampp\htdocs\xampp\index.php...I create a folder named as myWorks in  C:\xampp\htdocs\xampp\ and put a test file.  But the test file doesn't work!...

I used WAMPP very much in past...I put the files in www folder in WAMPP...Where to put the files/folders etc. in XAMPP?

I also tried C:\xampp\php\www but no use...Am i going to configure php.ini under C:\xampp\apache\bin\php.ini?

I am sending my php.ini as code snippet and the phpinfo() as txt attachment...

Best regards...

; WARNING ;

;;;;;;;;;;;

; This is the default settings file for new PHP installations.

; By default, PHP installs itself with a configuration suitable for

; development purposes, and *NOT* for production purposes.

; For several security-oriented considerations that should be taken

; before going online with your site, please consult php.ini-recommended

; and http://php.net/manual/en/security.php.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; About php.ini   ;

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to

; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current

; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable

; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).

; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The

; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using

; the -c argument in command line mode.

;

; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines

; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).

; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though

; they might mean something in the future.

;

; Directives are specified using the following syntax:

; directive = value

; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.

;

; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one

; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression

; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").

;

; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:

; |        bitwise OR

; &        bitwise AND

; ~        bitwise NOT

; !        boolean NOT

;

; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.

; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.

;

; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal

; sign, or by using the None keyword:

;

; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string

; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string

; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'

;

; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a

; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),

; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.

;

;

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; About this file ;

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; All the values in the php.ini-dist file correspond to the builtin

; defaults (that is, if no php.ini is used, or if you delete these lines,

; the builtin defaults will be identical).

; Output buffering allows you to send header lines (including cookies) even

; after you send body content, at the price of slowing PHP's output layer a

; bit. You can enable output buffering during runtime by calling the output

; buffering functions. You can also enable output buffering for all files by

; setting this directive to On. If you wish to limit the size of the buffer

; to a certain size - you can use a maximum number of bytes instead of 'On', as

; a value for this directive (e.g., output_buffering=4096).

; example, if you set output_handler to "mb_output_handler", character

; Note: People who wrote portable scripts should not depend on this ini

; directive. Instead, explicitly set the output handler using ob_start().

; Using this ini directive may cause problems unless you know what script

;       is doing.

; Note: You cannot use both "mb_output_handler" with "ob_iconv_handler"

; and you cannot use both "ob_gzhandler" and "zlib.output_compression".

; Note: output_handler must be empty if this is set 'On' !!!!

; Transparent output compression using the zlib library

; Valid values for this option are 'off', 'on', or a specific buffer size

; to be used for compression (default is 4KB)

; Note: Resulting chunk size may vary due to nature of compression. PHP

; outputs chunks that are few hundreds bytes each as a result of

; compression. If you prefer a larger chunk size for better

; performance, enable output_buffering in addition.

; Note: You need to use zlib.output_handler instead of the standard

[Session]

; Argument passed to save_handler. In the case of files, this is the path

;

; As of PHP 4.0.1, you can define the path as:

;

;     session.save_path = "N;/path"

;

; where N is an integer. Instead of storing all the session files in

; /path, what this will do is use subdirectories N-levels deep, and

; store the session data in those directories. This is useful if you

; or your OS have problems with lots of files in one directory, and is

; a more efficient layout for servers that handle lots of sessions.

;

; NOTE 1: PHP will not create this directory structure automatically.

; You can use the script in the ext/session dir for that purpose.

; NOTE 2: See the section on garbage collection below if you choose to

; use subdirectories for session storage

;

; The file storage module creates files using mode 600 by default.

; You can change that by using

;

;     session.save_path = "N;MODE;/path"

; does not overwrite the process's umask.

ok you are khaledf...it worked...

So, as i said i used to work with WAMPP..He has a www folder...Can i create a directory named as www under C:\xampp and store my files there?

trickyidiot:

here i add httpd.conf under C:\xampp\apache\conf as code snippet
#

# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the

# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.

# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/> for detailed information.

# In particular, see

# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>

# for a discussion of each configuration directive.

#

# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding

# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure

# consult the online docs. You have been warned.

#

# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many

# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the

# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin

# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"

# with ServerRoot set to "C:/xampp/apache" will be interpreted by the

# server as "C:/xampp/apache/logs/foo.log".

#

# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes

# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").

# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located

# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply

# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths, however, to avoid

# confusion.

#

# ThreadsPerChild: constant number of worker threads in the server process

# MaxRequestsPerChild: maximum number of requests a server process serves

ThreadsPerChild 250

MaxRequestsPerChild  0

#

# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's

# configuration, error, and log files are kept.

#

# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point

# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive

# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple

# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.

#

ServerRoot "C:/xampp/apache"

#

# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or

# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>

# directive.

#

# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to

# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses (0.0.0.0)

#

#Listen 12.34.56.78:80

Listen 80

# Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support

#

# To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you

# have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the

# Statically compiled modules (those listed by `httpd -l') do not need

# to be loaded here.

#

LoadModule actions_module modules/mod_actions.so

LoadModule auth_basic_module modules/mod_auth_basic.so

# Apache parses all CGI scripts for the shebang line by default.

# This comment line, the first line of the script, consists of the symbols

# pound (#) and exclamation (!) followed by the path of the program that

# can execute this specific script. For a perl script, with perl.exe in

# the C:\Program Files\Perl directory, the shebang line should be:

   #!c:/program files/perl/perl

# Note you _must_not_ indent the actual shebang line, and it must be the

# first line of the file. Of course, CGI processing must be enabled by

# the appropriate ScriptAlias or Options ExecCGI directives for the files

# or directory in question.

#

# However, Apache on Windows allows either the Unix behavior above, or can

# use the Registry to match files by extention. The command to execute

# a file of this type is retrieved from the registry by the same method as

# the Windows Explorer would use to handle double-clicking on a file.

# These script actions can be configured from the Windows Explorer View menu,

# 'Folder Options', and reviewing the 'File Types' tab. Clicking the Edit

# button allows you to modify the Actions, of which Apache 1.3 attempts to

# perform the 'Open' Action, and failing that it will try the shebang line.

# This behavior is subject to change in Apache release 2.0.

#

# Each mechanism has it's own specific security weaknesses, from the means

# to run a program you didn't intend the website owner to invoke, and the

# best method is a matter of great debate.

#

#ScriptInterpreterSource registry

#

# The directive above can be placed in individual <Directory> blocks or the

Can you detail the question a little more? I think I may be missing what you're asking.

I think what you're asking is that if you create the dir 'foo' within the /www/ dir, would you be able to go to http://localhost/foo?
The answer is yes, unless you restrict web access to that dir via httpd.conf or an htaccess file.

i see,

you have a file in the www directory that is not allowing you to view the list of directories.

rename index.php or index.html files that are in www folder.

Well there is index.php and index.html but they are necessary to show the main page of XAMPP..
When i write localhost or localhost/index.php, i am redirected to http://localhost/xampp/ which is the default view...I want to navigate over my projects, simply is there a menu or stg that can see my directories under my www?

I put some screenshots so it's better to understand...

The code below (extracted form the code you posted)
will search through all directories within the current directory of the script running and diaplay links to them, excluding anything in the exclude list ($list_ignore).

You could easily pop this into any PHP pahe

<?php

                        // Affichage de la liste des dossiers non énumérés plus haut ( = projets ).

                        $list_ignore = array ('.','..','exemples','phpmyadmin','sqlitemanager');

                        $handle=opendir(".");

                        while ($file = readdir($handle)) {

                            if (is_dir($file) && !in_array($file,$list_ignore)) {

                                echo '<a class="ditem" href="'.$file.'"><img src="dossier.gif" alt="image dossier" /> '.$file.'</a>';

                            }

                        }

                        closedir($handle);
