Shared BCM over WAN link

I am trying to connect to a shared BCM database over VPN.  It was working for a long time and then it stopped syncing.  When I deleted it from the outlook profile and readded it, it fails on creating the offline database everytime.  i have cleared the old stuff out of the directory, that helped and it was able to complete the task.  However, then next time we got out of outlook and back in, it was gone.  once again i tried to connect and the offline database does not complete.  I am able to connect to it and not give it offline capabilities, but that is too slow and the user can't operate that way.

I am open to any suggestions.

There is a timeout on the remote SQL server that is stopping your sync from finishing. This is very common with remote BCM users.

I have written up some performance tips for BCM on my blog. You can read them here www.whoisaaron.net , although the first thing that I would recommend checking would be your DNS setup.

From the blog:
"make sure you are not using your ISPs DNS server. If using a VPN you may need to set static DNS. Network speed to the DNS server is also very important, especially if you are working over a VPN. Check this using nslookup, if the server does not respond in time, then you may need to create a reverse lookup zone for the remote network address. "
