How many hard drive for RAID 10?

Hello Experts,

We are planning on settup up a RAID with RAID 10.  How many hard drives will be needed?  I have 4 - 750GB drives.

If I purchase 2 more 750GB drives, can I add it to the RAID after it is already up and running?

Thanks,
Wayne

Sure, you just have to have drives in multiples of 2.  RAID 10 mirrors pairs of drives, then stripes the individual mirrors together to make one large volume.

By the way, that RAID controller seems to have an Adaptec controller that does support dynamic volume expansion.  Don't forget, your OS will need to support expanding the partition, unless you are looking to add a new partition to that drive.

thanks daviddriv,

our OS is not going to be part of that RAID, it is actually on a seperate hard drive that is also mirrored to another hard drive.
