If you have full rights on your server, you can install this using the distro tools.

for more information about installing PDF, check this:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/pdf.setup.php

PDF extension is a PECL extension, here you can find how to install PECL extensions on your machine:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.pecl.php

For linux server you do not use the dll file, it's for windows - linux has it's own version and it called so files (share object).

The location of the extensions files (.so files) are configured in the php.ini under the directive: extension_dir
