I am pretty new to web development. Currently, I am trying to create a small personal web page that will be hosted on my personal intranet. The hurdle I have, is that I cannot figure out how to create tab based navigation. To give you an idea of what I am trying to create, I have attached an image of a similar website.

Currently, I have a site map, which I have added to my master page, but the menu options only allow me to make a vertical or horizontal menu.  How can I make it into tabs? I just want simple tabs at the top.
<siteMap xmlns=http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0 >

  <siteMapNode url = "default.aspx" title = "" description = "">
    <siteMapNode url = "~/pages/default.aspx" title = "tab1" description = "" />
    <siteMapNode url = "~/pages/default1.aspx" title = "tab2" description = "" />
    <siteMapNode url = "~/pages/default2.aspx" title = "tab3" description = "" />
  </siteMapNode>
</siteMap>
