Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

I tried to create a simple test windows service on my development workstation following the Microsoft example here:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/zt39148a(VS.80).aspx

when I went to start the service I received the following error:
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

I'm running XP Professional on my workstation and developing using Visual Studio 2005.

Any help is appreciated.

have you looked at the user account / permission / password the service is trying to use? set it withing window's services control.. try the administrator account or 'built in system account'.
