I built a new 2003 server and promoted it with the wizard to DC in order to replace the old DC. The new Server2 is the DCHP, DNS, WINS and DC. Server1 is DNS and DC currently but it used to have DHCP and WINS.
Everything seems to be fine, no errors in the event logs except:
Using windows explorer, I go to My Network Places, Entire Network, Microsoft Windows Network, HOME, server1 and server2. When I click on Share in server1 it opens, but when I click on Share on server2 it says:
\\Server2\Share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource...
But I'm trying to access it with the Domain Admin account. I know it's either a DNS or WINS issue, but the DNS entries are identical for each server. The only difference is in WINS where there is not an entry for Server1.
Now, if i type \\Server2.home.local\Share it works! Here's a combination of access I type in the address bar.:
The DCDiags also says the NETLOGON share test failed. If I turn off the Server1 no one can log into their client machines.
Finally, the zone for the "home.local" shares on Server2 are in "Internet" while the others are in "Local Intranet"
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
