Can I connect this laserjet 3150 in xp using a microsolutions usb-parallel adapter

I've just done an install of a new dell inspiron 530 at a customer site.  Now I have  to make his hp laserjet 3150 work and I can go home.  The only adapter I had available was an old microsolutions model 839.  This was an apapter used with their backpack CD writer.  I attached it to the Dell and windows figured out it was there.  I pointed to the downloaded driver and defined it  on lpt1 because I wasn't  given an option of defining it on a usb port  - but I can't  print  to the device.  Is there any driver or definitions that I can use to make this work? Or should I just can it until I can get another adapter.
Thanks,
Al

I downloaded the microsolutions backpack drivers and when I plugged in the device the system saw it and installed the correct driver then reinstalled the printer.  Still no go.

From my experience those adapters can have mixed results and not work based on type of device, specific make/model, or even OS.
What is the OS on that computer?  Why use the adapter?  What port does each device have?  If the Laserjet only has USB then you will have issues using the adapter to get ALL functions and features working.  Unfortunately I was not able to find an active HP web page with specs for that printer on it.  Could you confirm the exact family name and model of that printer.

OS is XP.  I'm awaiting an adapter through the mail, but  you gave me the answer I needed.
Some do and some don't.  Thanks,
Al
