I have a Sonvy Vaio RS630G that had many viruses while the user was performing updates such as XP SP3. After removing the viruses IE takes a real long time to boot and fails when trying to upgrade to IE7. I want to run a repair on XP because it has tons of apps installed and files. Sony only has recovery via backup your user data and reinstall the original version of XP and shipped apps. I do not want to follow this process and then have to reinstall all the user apps and data.

How can I perform an XP Repair if I do not have an OEM version of Sony XP Home?

If possible - you can use the sony tools to burn the recovery CD's.   One of those should be the OEM XP2 disk.

I Haven't run that wizard but Sony informed me that it creates a disk that will reformat the drive and load the original software. I dont think it will allow me to use it like a normal XP disk and run a Repair. Do you think otherwise?

I can't say for certain.   I've only used the restore function on a Sony to redo the entire drive.   Sony would be the source on that info , so believe them over me.

Have you tried taking any old XP2 disk for the repair?   IIRC you should be able to repair from any disk as long as your not messing key code.....

Response no longer needed. Fixed individual errors instead of running repair.
