IBM Websphere .war file

I have a .war file installed in websphere 5.1. I need to chaneg a couple of class files as replacement . Can I directly replace the files by browsing to the .ear directopry?

Also if i have to redeploy the whole application with the changes i have, where cna i get teh war file fromt eh existing deployed war file in websphere?

Hi,
you can definitely add files inside .war in installed Apps
you will have to compile the class files and property files inorder to obtain the .war file.

i get  a 500 error when ir eplace the new file. Just to amke sure when I put back the odl class file also its giving 500 error. These class files are correct. Am  doing something wrong? I am also boungin the server and restarting the app.

try this:
stop all app servers mapped to the application, replace files, delete cache , tranlog , start servers.

how do i delete cache?

check DMGR config>temp has the .ear/.war
full synchronization of nA's and restart before u bring up the servers.

u mean go to the DMGR config directory? Could you please ellaborate a  little?

go to profiles>dmgr>config>temp delete any .war/ear if present..
were you able to hit the application before making the change.
check systemout log ,system err logs too.

you can use the admin console to export the war and download to desktop, import into AST or RAD and make needed changes, re-export the war with appropriate descriptors to deploy.
